Smart Home Cabling Requirements for the Modern Home

Modern homes have many digital devices that are connected to the internet. Wireless is part of the solution but not the whole solution. Now more than ever, with bandwidth hungry applications and video streaming, homes need a solid wiring infrastructure to facilitate modern living. Today’s smart home and the homes of the future will save us money and time, providing us with services such as internet, TV and satellite to multiple rooms with a cable infrastructure that is fit for purpose now and in the future. Many cable types are on the market, in this CPD we’ll look at coaxial cable and data cable options for the home as well as the importance of testing them.

Learning Objectives

1. Provide a basic understanding of residential cabling infrastructure that supports home technology

2. Understand the services and benefits delivered using cables

3. Understand the need for both wireless and wired infrastructure

4. Understand the different grade of cables and which are required for home technology infrastructure

Please contact Imogen Dent at CEDIA who will put you in touch with someone in your area qualified to deliver the CPD.

Future of the Connected Home questionnaire

CEDIA EMEA have introduced their new, interactive online questionnaire designed to engage with design professionals on The Future of the Connected Home. The questionnaire is a useful tool to help the home technology industry better understand the needs and views of individuals within the design sector and educate them about key facts and issues in connected home technology.

The survey allows users to share their thoughts on a range of subjects, including the scale of the connected home sector, the likely appeal of different technology sub-systems, the impact of broadband availability, potential project budgets and priorities for connected home installations. On completion of this questionnaire you are eligible for a free CEDIA CPD session and a copy of the CEDIA report on the findings.
