A comprehensive tour of the mill, encompassing all aspects of a working furnishing fabric manufacturer. Guests will be given an introductory talk explaining the origins of silk weaving in the area and the Huguenot families involved. Then a walk through all of the stages of production, including our fabric design office, dye house, yarn preparation (winding and warping), weaving and finally our Archive Room where guests can ask any questions they may have. Within the tour Guests can expect to lean about how to translate a client’s idea into a finished woven fabric, the differences between types of yarns and the dyestuffs required to achieve an exact colour match. Also the true meaning and difference between differing fabric types including Damasks, Brocades, Brocatelle’s, lampas, tabourette and many more We welcome individuals and groups of up to 12 people and envisage the tour to last anything from 2 to 4 hours depending on individual interest.
