The purpose of this workshop is to lay bare the furniture commissioning process to Interior Designers who might not have considered it previously and to present the array of possibilities. The workshop will help the designer understand the various stages of commissioning furniture, from sketch design to working drawings, from material selection and sampling to hand-finishing, what to expect, what to look out for, how to avoid common pitfalls and how to get the best out of the design/making company. (i.e. what information do Interior Designers need to communicate in order to be best served). This event will be delivered in a round table discussion.
We are used to seeing gilding on antique frames and furniture, but this workshop presents the traditional technique in modern contexts and to present the technique as a viable option for luxurious interior furniture and surface finishing. This workshop will take designers through the history of gilding and the different techniques and styles through the years. We will look at the different finished and aesthetics that can be achieved with various metal leaf, from wall finishing to the intricacies of verre eglomisé.
