Dunning & Everard project

17th Century Lake Como Villa

We first visited this villa in the summer, the second time was in November and the difference in temperature was extreme. This achingly beautiful building was in dire need of rescue and under floor heating became a must. Google translate became my best friend working alongside the most delighful Italian architect and the conservation officers from Rome. One might think working in Italy on the equivalent of a UK listed property would be tricky, but no, the conservation architects were amenable and understanding. The builders were fantastic and the decorators mind blowing. I took my Farrow & Ball chart with me and they mixed the appropriate colour in a limewash there and then and had it on the wall within the hour! As the ceilings were all hand painted from the 18th C and earlier we had to design as we stood in the room!

This has to be one of my all time favourite projects, it was a true love affair.
