Surrey Country House
This is a new-build contemporary ‘get-away’ house, recently constructed on an elevated plot, affording breath-taking views across the Dorset coastline towards Sandbanks.
The brief was to create a sense of freedom, light and space. Unlike their more formal principal home in Berkshire, our Clients wanted quite the opposite here; the house was to be fun, informal, and very relaxed.
The property’s outstanding location and the interior spaces are complemented by the maximum use of glass. A spacious deck leads through to an open-plan kitchen/ breakfast room/ relax area. This space benefits from near ‘wrap-around’ full height glass doors. so our Clients can fully appreciate the expanse of views surrounding the property!
The interior finish was to be pretty much neutral, but with the selective addition of contrasts in a ‘relaxed colour pallet .' We particularly enjoyed designing and commissioning the informal seating arrangement (selecting and setting out six different fabrics) this sits fronting a log burning stove in the relax area .
Hard floors are used throughout for ease of maintenance (especially with sandy feet in mind) but the flooring’s typically cold character is counter- balanced by underfloor heating, meaning the family will use this house all year round.
