Hoxton Loft Apartment
A substantial residential interior design project in Hackney, East London, re-modelling a very large double bay-fronted Victorian Villa. After creating a design concept for the house, we installed a new custom parquet wood floor throughout the house and added layers of new lighting and custom-designed joinery, storage and panelling, extensively refurbishing the bathrooms, bedrooms and living spaces.
The project involved a huge amount of sourcing of furniture, accessories and decorative items for the house, from sofas to wall lights and chandeliers, gallery-grade LED lighting to illuminate the couple’s art collection, coffee tables, book cases, cushions, throws and all manner of accessories for the living room, dining room, baby’s playroom, baby’s bedroom, guest bedroom, master bedroom, master en-suite bathroom, kitchen, dining room and study.
We also put together a detailed decorative paint and finishes scheme for the house, working with Farrow & Ball paint, integrating some of their exciting new shades, including a neon yellow new handrail to the staircase painted in F&B’s amazing new shade Yellow Cake.
One offs and custom designs
We love sourcing and the styling side of our projects can make the difference between a project simply looking great and one which feels really unique and amazing. Many of the finds were vintage one-off pieces, like the 19th century marble fireplace in the front room that we sourced, the Willy Rizzo 1970s mirror and smoked glass coffee table which turns into a ‘bar’ when it opens out. The sofas were vintage Danish 1970s pieces and the Sputnik style Austrian globe chandelier was sourced from Alfie’s Antiques market.
We also designed a custom headboard for the Master Bedroom made from a giant piece of Scottish Elm. The suspended bed-side lights either side of the master bed were also a bespoke design commission.
We also created the floor, working with a parquet specialist to source a really special and unusual walnut wood in a mix of Sap and Prime grades to create the boldly variegated ‘look’ to the floor we wanted. The bathroom featured a mix of vintage furniture and accessories, mixed with traditional sanitaryware spray painted in shades of mint.
