In the heart of Kensington, London, a busy couple wanted their lounge modernised to improve not only the dated décor but also showcase their personal possessions from their travels around the world. I created a comfortable and relaxing design based on neutral colours with a hint of heather purple for a touch of elegance.
Maximising the beautifully high ceilings, I designed bespoke storage units to showcase the couple's many treasures. Each art piece was planned to fit into a specific shelf space with additional back lighting for the darker evenings and hidden storage for items that don't need to be displayed. Colourful lighting adds a further dimension to the space and allows them to change the feeling of the room depending on their mood.
For the large sash windows I incorporated bespoke shutters into the design. This provides the homeowners with suitable privacy, flexibility of light, and easy access to the windows.
To complete the design, I incorporated dark wood flooring which balances beautifully with their oriental pieces of art. For a touch of softness and elegance, several handmade cushions finish off the design.
The couple enjoy entertaining their friends and family in their comfortable lounge - it's relaxing, homely and stylish.
Here's what the homeowners had to say:
"Gwendoline has great empathy for her clients, which is why she is able to interpret their needs. She is extremely professional."
