The judging panel also decided to award Highly Commended to one other entry, BIID Student Member Elena Faulkner, Arts University Plymouth, in the Hybrid category.

Digital Category Winner: Shelter Woods by BIID Student Member Doroteja Liaukeviciute (Falmouth University)

The judges said: ‘It is an idea that should be promoted to local authorities; a creation that showcases how design impacts a community. It shows joined-up thinking, and the concept successfully demonstrates inclusivity, sustainability, biophilia, and social implications. The description of the drawing is written very well and impactful. The artist clearly considered the construction of the interior and as a result, depicts a very practical space. You just want to walk into it!’

Hand Drawn Category Winner:Therapy Room for Treating Body Dysmorphic Disorder by BIID Student Member Doroteja Liaukeviciute (Falmouth University)

The judges said: ‘Great inclusive idea that marries emotional and mental connection, they expressed their concept very well in the written explanation. Complex angles were expressed very well; can see how patients would feel comfortable in the space

Hybrid Category Winner: Polaroid and Paul Smith by BIID Student Member Sam Putnam (Norwich University of the Arts)

The judges said: ‘Very clever, the client would be very happy with this concept. This is a good concept, clear and well executed. Achieves the brief and would expect a client to exclaim ‘wow, let’s do that!’ upon receiving the concept drawing. It’s a great image; would be a great print

Hybrid Highly Commended: KIDLY Hub by BIID Student Member Elena Faulkner (Arts University Plymouth)

The Judges said: 'You can tell that a lot of care and attention was given to this drawing. A great example of a hybrid drawing, equally combining digital and hand drawn for a successful and cohesive result.'

The competition was created to celebrate student talent from across the UK and was free of charge to enter to ensure that it was inclusive as possible. A Judging Panel of BIID Registered Interior Designers was convened to judge the winners. The judges were:

  • Lester Bennett, RegID – BIID Past President and design consultant
  • Verity Coleman, RegID – Chair of the BIID Diversity & Inclusion Committee and owner of Rascals & Roses
  • Chris Dezile, RegID – owner of Honky Design
  • Dee Gibson, RegID – member of the BIID Sustainability and Professional Practice Committee

Entries were judged anonymously and the judges were asked to assess entries on creativity and originality, technical ability and the ability to communicate a design idea or concept. The winners of each category will receive a cash prize of £500 each.
