Claudia Berkefeld

I’m Claudia Berkefeld, founder of northsix, an independent interior design and interior architecture practice. With over twenty years’ experience across architecture and interior design, I bring a combination of strong design expertise, architectural thinking and a deeply personal approach to every project.

I studied Architecture at ETH Zurich, with further studies at EPFL Lausanne and TU Delft, before building my career working on award-winning workplace projects for global clients across Europe. This experience has given me a rigorous understanding of space, proportion, planning and detail, alongside a sensitivity to materials, colour, light and atmosphere — the elements that transform a well-planned space into a truly beautiful one.

I believe great interiors are about much more than creating a particular look. They are about understanding how a space can feel, function and evolve around the people who inhabit it. I work closely with my clients to understand their lives, tastes and aspirations, then translate these into thoughtful, cohesive and highly individual interiors.

I’m not interested in imposing a signature style or following trends. Instead, I draw on my experience and design judgement to create spaces that feel authentic to the people who live in them, while bringing a level of refinement, creativity and detail that can be difficult to achieve alone.

Whether developing the potential of an existing home, resolving a challenging layout or designing an entire interior, I enjoy finding the right balance between beauty and practicality. My aim is always to create spaces that feel effortless, characterful and considered — interiors that are not only beautiful, but genuinely make life better.
