Our National And International Partnerships
The BIID has strategic partnerships at both national and international level with leading built environment and design organisations.
Anti-Copying In Design (ACID)
Anti Copying in Design (ACID) is the UK's leading membership and campaigning organisation dedicated to safeguarding intellectual property (IP) rights within the design sector. Founded in 1996, ACID's mission is to raise awareness about IP issues, promote respect for original design, and create a safer trading environment for designers. Key initiatives include the ACID IP Databank, which allows members to securely record their designs, serving as evidence in potential disputes. The organization also offers educational resources, legal support, and lobbying efforts to influence policy changes that strengthen design protection laws. Notably, ACID played a pivotal role in the 2014 Intellectual Property Act, which criminalized the intentional infringement of registered designs. Through these efforts, ACID empowers designers to protect their creative works and fosters a culture of respect for IP rights within the industry. The BIID is a partner of ACID.

Key initiatives include the implementation of the CITB Health, Safety, and Environment test, which applicants must pass to obtain a card, and the development of the CSCS Smart Check system, enabling employers to verify card authenticity efficiently. Additionally, CSCS is phasing out Industry Accreditation cards by December 31, 2024, to promote a fully qualified workforce. Through these efforts, CSCS aims to foster a competent and safety-conscious construction workforce in the UK. Full BIID members are eligible to apply for a Professionally Qualified Persons (PQP) CSCS card.
