Interior designers, architects and private clients typically work with us in one of three ways.
- They either purchase a standard made-to-order item from our online Collection.
- Alternatively, we can customise on some of our standard Collection items if a change to the size, material or finish of a current design is preferred.
- And we can commission one of our recommended designer-makers to create a bespoke piece of furniture or object from conception through to completion.
In July 2021 we were approached by interior designers Olivia Outred to make a custom size version of our Conholt Desk in oak for their private client in St John’s Wood, London. The Conholt Desk is a distinctive modern piece made from New Forest Oak, Bog Oak and featuring Scottish leather.

The project team comprised the interior designers Olivia Outred and their private client, and ourselves to coordinate the custom order with our furniture designer-maker.
Planning
A considerably larger version of the standard size Conholt Desk was required to custom-fit the width of the end client’s large bay window, so we first had to ensure the increased size desk proportions worked both aesthetically and structurally.
Having shared samples of the oak and leather for approval, towards the end of July we created a working drawing, advised on pricing for the increased size desk and confirmed an 8-weeks lead time for making and delivery. Once this was approved, we organised advance payments and then prepared a 3D visualisation of the desk for final approval ahead of making which was scheduled to commence at the start of August for end September delivery.
Making
Throughout the handcrafted making process, and at key stages, we proactively shared images of the desk with Olivia Outred, and kept them fully informed on progress and the schedule. Once the desk was completed we again shared photos for approval ahead of organising final balancing payments prior to preparing the desk for transportation and arranging delivery.
Packaging & Delivery
As can be seen in the photos, the desk was thoroughly protected and carefully packaged for delivery to London by the maker in the first week of October 2021. From the first conversation in mid July to delivery, this customised order took 11 weeks. We look forward to seeing this beautiful piece in situ once the full client project has been completed by Olivia Outred.
