CPD overview

The seminar will cover the broader subject of "Building a Sustainable Footprint in the Home Furnishings Industry." The aims will be to explore material sourcing, composition, and harvesting of sustainable materials. The course will also stress the importance of considering product life cycle and products management system, from production to packaging and ending with the consumer.

Learning objectives

By the end of the CPD you should have a greater understanding of:

• Gain an understanding and appreciation of the use of sustainable practices in product development, sourcing, production, and manufacturing in the Home Furnishings Industry and be able to use this knowledge when specifying furniture, lighting, and décor created from natural, sustainable materials in design and production
• Learn how supporting and preserving artisan craftsmanship contributes to the preservation of quality production, the conservation of legacy techniques, and the manufacturing of products with long life cycles, and use this information to source items that positively impact a sustainable footprint
• Explore the importance of lasting, enduring, non-disposable product design and realise why selecting home furnishings with long product life cycles contributes to a sustainable footprint
• Discover the considerations for responsible packaging and transit of goods and use this information to partner with vendors who proactively work to use sustainable packaging and transit methods to reduce their carbon footprint
