The Baltic Exchange is a City of London institution and occupies an equally impressive Grade II listed building on St Mary Axe neighbouring ‘The Gherkin’.

The client wished to future proof their building, updating, and upgrading to provide Grade A office and retail. Using our understanding of working with listed buildings PLD were appointed to refresh and modernise the building interior to provide new offices for the Baltic Exchange with CAT B designs to the reception and landlord areas. In addition a new CAT A fit out was designed for the rest of the building. These office spaces have been enhanced with staff facility provision at basement level and a terrace at roof level.

With parts of the existing building interior listed (including the opulent timber panelled boardroom), careful attention was paid to the existing building fabric, structure, materials, and colours. A considerate refurbishment was carried out, restoring, enhancing, or replacing as required.

High quality materials, fixtures and fittings were used throughout all spaces. Many spaces were opened to create light, airy, collaborative settings returning the building to its former glory. In addition, the office spaces were enhanced with staff facility provision at basement level and a terrace at roof level.
