The owners of this small lower ground floor Bloomsbury apartment wanted a warm, inviting home for when they were in town. The brief was to provide additional sleeping space, plenty of storage and somewhere to eat.
We removed the dated glass brick wall and sliding door to the kitchen to make the space more airy and open plan. To help brighten the space, we installed additional lighting and reflective surfaces. The dark laminate floor was replaced with silvery oak engineered wood, which also helps to lighten the apartment. The colour scheme was inspired by the green-grey of the couples’ Chinese paintings and their favourite berry colours.
A double sofa bed was bought for the living room, we had a storage ottoman made and bought wall units that conceal the TV. A console table cleverly opens up to become a dining table that comfortably seats four.
In the bedroom we exaggerated the colours used in the living room; the walls are covered in silver and jade green wallpaper, whilst the berry coloured accents used in the living room become a vibrant fuscia pink. The wardrobe originally had plain white doors, which we changed to mirrored doors accented in walnut to coordinate with the furniture in the rest of the apartment.
We revamped the existing kitchen and bathroom with new tiles and colour-coordinated accessories.
Total cost including contractors, furniture and soft furnishings, approximately £45,000.00
