Fees and Getting Paid: The Big Debate Goes On

Event date

Back by popular demand, the BIID will be debating the issue of Fees and Getting Paid once again. This issue can often be a confusing one for both designer and client. There are several different fee methods – including charging on a percentage, fixed fee, hourly rate or mark-up basis – and one project might involve a combination of one or more of these methods. Fair trading regulations prevent the Institute setting fee guidelines for the industry which can often mean designers must establish their fee structure on a trial and error basis. This event will gather a panel of experienced designers  to discuss some of the most pressing issues surrounding fees and charging, including:

  • What have designers found to be the most effective charging method?
  • What have designers found to be the least effective charging method?
  • What steps can a designer take to help ensure they are paid for their work, in full and on time?
  • What steps can a designer take to prevent themselves being victims of money laundering activities?
  • What feedback have designers received from clients about their charging methods?
  • What guidance on fees and charging would designers like to see from the Institute?

Attendees will of course have the opportunity to ask questions and share their own experiences.

Please note: that due to legal restrictions, panellists and attendees will not be able to discuss specific financial figures.

Panel Chair:
Susie Rumbold, BIID Vice President and Creative Director of Tessuto Interiors.
Panellists:
Gilly Craft, KouBou Interiors
Mark Barratt, CATO Creative
