Interior Design Tour of the Royal Albert Hall
Join the BIID on a bespoke tour of one of London’s most revered landmarks. The brainchild of Prince Albert in the 1850s, the hall was designed by Francis Fowke and completed in just four years in 1871.
The hall sees ballet, films, ice shows, lectures, opera, sporting events, trade fairs and formal dinners, operating under a Royal Charter which states that it must support an understanding, an appreciation and an enjoyment of the arts and of the sciences.
What to expect:
The tour will be split into two parts, beginning with an architectural focus of the building itself, from the hidden details that the public normally passes by, to the galleries of famous shows and exhibitions and the Royal Retiring room where the Queen goes to see shows at the hall. There will even be a tour on top of the hall’s roof, which affords a fantastic view over Albertopolis.
The price includes a lunch with teas and coffees halfway through the tour, before moving on to an afternoon focussed on the building’s interior design, showcasing how the space is used today, and how modern design innovations make the building one of the world’s most coveted venues.
The tour will cover much of the building’s extraordinary history and will deliver fascinating insights into the most famous and unusual uses it has seen.
Attendees can expect to see the following elements of the Royal Albert Hall:
· History of the building
· Initial architecture and design
· Auditorium and building uses
· Modern use of space and design of individual spaces
· Roof design and Hall acoustics
· Surrounding area and Albertopolis
· Recent renovations and space beneath the building
