RIBA invites you to the Brexit Briefing Breakfast

Event date

The RIBA is assembling a panel of experts to brief practitioners on the emerging Brexit situation at the end of March, by which time UK negotiations with the EU are expected to be underway in earnest after the historic triggering of Article 50.

The Brexit Briefing Breakfast will bring architects up to date on what we know and will draw from lessons learned from past economic cycles  to highlight market opportunities and give a clear steer on the way forward for the profession.

RIBA President Jane Duncan will be reporting on how the RIBA has been providing a strong voice on Brexit for the architecture profession in support of the membership.

‘The RIBA’s Brexit Breakfast Briefing will cut through the Brexit noise, giving members information about the current and future market outlook and constructive pointers on how practices can respond effectively to potential economic turbulence and remain resilient,’ says Jane Duncan.

‘We’ll also be looking at future opportunities for architects, including internationally. I look forward to seeing you there!’

Adrian Dobson, RIBA Executive Director Members, will chair a panel on ‘How to survive the volatility and economic uncertainty of Brexit in practice', with speakers including Rachael Davidson of Hut Architecture, Jonathan Hall of AHMM and Cindy Walters of Walters & Cohen Architects.

Peter Oborn, RIBA Vice President International, will be looking at opportunities in practice at home and abroad with help from Rosa Wilkinson, Director of Stakeholder Engagement for Trade Policy at the Department for International Trade (DTI), and Will Wimshurst of Wimshurst Pelleriti.

‘There is a strong appetite among RIBA members and architects for clear information around Brexit. Though there is no crystal ball available that can accurately predict what will unravel in the next few years, the briefing will separate the wheat from the chaff and provide some positive pointers for practices moving forwards,’ says RIBA Head of Professional Programmes Helen Castle.

‘In order to establish how current economic conditions are playing out, Adrian Malleson, Head of Research, Analysis and Forecasting at NBS, will provide a clear overview of the UK construction industry and property market.

A panel of leading professionals from practices of different scales will draw on their direct experience of previous economic recessions to provide some tips on how to go about surviving economic uncertainty. The event will close with a panel discussion focusing on how to go about seeking new opportunities at home and abroad – whether working in stronger sectors or in new global markets.’

The Brexit Briefing Breakfast will take place at 66 Portland Place on 29 March 2017 from 8.30 to 10am (registration and coffee from 8am).

Tickets cost £15 RIBA Members and £20 non RIBA members, RIBA have kindly extended their member rate to all BIID members that are interested in joining them for the morning.
