This now light, elegant and meticulously restored terrace apartment had been used as student accommodation for over 10 years, and prior to that as a nursing home (joined to the adjacent property internally).  The project involved removing numerous later partitions and recreating as far as possible the original plan form. Extensive works were carried out, including structural support works, complete rewiring and plumbing, restoration of original Bath stonework, architraves, stairs, shutters, fireplaces and floors where possible.  All works required liaison with Listed buildings, English Heritage, Planning in a World Heritage Site, as well as current requirements of building regulations.

  • We used a number of existing pieces of furniture and artwork which the client had, and reupholstered to suit the room to provide comfortable seating areas for reading, conversation, TV and relaxing.

  • Second floor master bed with large ensuite and dressing room.

  • When stripping out the partitions, we were lucky enough to find the original dividing “wedding doors”, which have been completely restored, along with the delicate architraves, windows, shutters and floorboards.

  • In the top floor children’s room floors carefully uplifted and restored where possible, from fireplace, stone surround and hearth carefully stripped of old paints and cast inner restored.

  • Shutters and floorboards restored, with new boards necessary for the dining room both stained and oiled consistently to help provide a flow.

  • Top bathroom was previously a boiler and junk room, with the “secret gutter” found frequently in Georgian properties to allow internal drainage from the roof, open to the rear.
