Karen Butterfield, BIID Associate
Karen Butterfield is the founder of Bilton Butterfield Interior Design, a practice she established in 2019. Originally from the UK, Karen's career began in the fashion industry, where her eye for style and detail was honed. After a decade in fashion, she transitioned into project management, gaining 15 years of experience while also undertaking property renovations, sparking her passion for interior design.
Karen holds a first-class honours degree in Interior Design and an honours degree in Post-Compulsory Education. Her global experience living and working across four continents—Australia, Indonesia, UAE, Africa, and the Caribbean—enriches her design approach, blending international style and cultural insights into every project.
Karen has also contributed to the next generation of designers as a senior tutor at The National Design Academy in Dubai, where she taught international students a diploma in Interior Design. Her work there has been featured in Better Homes magazine.
Now based in the Caribbean, Karen is a proud member of the Professional Practice Committee at the British Institute of Interior Design (BIID), where she contributes to shaping professional standards within the industry.
Karen primarily focuses on residential projects, blending authenticity, balance, and beauty in her design philosophy. Her work is dedicated to creating meaningful, functional spaces that reflect the unique needs and personalities of her clients.
