Cost is never an issue when it comes to our install work. What this project features is a finish system designed to be both unique, striking, incredibly flexible and stunningly hard wearing.   • Now i'm going to show you how we got there.

  • Previously Kintsu was Grain, and Grain had scaffold boards as the finished floor. The look when first installed was interesting but it was done for cost reasons, nothing else. Paul asked me what I could do. Trust me I said. So with my Spider system from Pallmann I turned the scaffold boards into the pine you see in the image. Wire brushed under a water soaking and then twice carbon polished.

  • Its important you see and almost feel the texture of these scaffold boards

  • We then apply the base colour from a range of 333 x colours by Pallmann. Once dry we cut it back using a fine grit. This really is a decision you make with us as it will affect the look at the end. Next coat is PalX 98 Gold water based lacquer. We want to harden and set the base colour. When dry we can cut back again.

  • The last but one coat application is an acrylic colour. here we have chosen grey. This is trowel applied. Now you can see the relevance of the face structure. The acrylic pools in the troughs . Another cut back with 100, 120, 150 grit, or a maroon 380 pad. Options are available. The final process is either 1 or two coats on PalX 98 lacquer. It's a truly unique floor, the first commercial project with this system in the UK and a colour way that offers infinite possibilities. Whats truly astonishing is the strength of the finish. Not bad for a scaffold board floor.

  • I take images of the the Kintsu floor every time I go. Despite all the foot traffic the finish is so resilient and hardly a stiletto mark in sight.
