BIID Supports Design Engineer Construct!® "Design a Restaurant Challenge"

Published on

The BIID is supporting the Design Engineer Construct!® "Design a Restaurant Challenge" with Jamie’s Italian. Design Engineer Construct!® (DEC!) is an accredited learning programme for secondary-school age students and has been expertly developed to create and inspire the next generation of Built Environment professionals. Through a project-based approach, DEC! applies pure academic subjects to the latest construction industry practices. The result is young people with real-world practical experience and employability skills.

There is little understanding of Built Environment professions and few young people aspire to a career in this important sector of the British and global economy. By getting involved with DEC! schools and industry can educate the future of construction and change the lives of young people.

DEC has just unveiled its 2016 schools competition. Together with Jamie’s Italian, they are inviting budding design, engineering and construction professionals to create a restaurant for Jamie’s Italian.

This is a unique opportunity, open to all UK secondary schools. Working as a team, students will use their creativity and ingenuity to identify an interesting local building in their area. It may be old, it may be new but it will certainly be one that they are inspired to re-imagine into a beautiful and functional working restaurant.

How to enter:

The ‘Design a Restaurant with Jamie’s Italian’ competition is open to secondary students (age 11-16) in the UK. Each school should enter just one team of up to 10 members.

Behind every building is a great team of professionals, with very special talents. When you create your team think about the skills that each member will need to make your design come to life. This is an excellent opportunity to run a ‘Dragons Den’ event from which you can put your best team forward.
