Animals marched across the yellow curtains and cuddly toys lined the windowsill in the playroom of this spacious Victorian house, which is a holiday home on the north Cornish coast. Trouble was, the “kids” were now at the GCSE stage and embarrassed to bring their friends round, not surprisingly!

An awkward shape room with a big step in the ceiling evidencing its previous existence as two separate rooms, we started by taking out a built in cupboard to give more space for seating – smart phones taking up less space than dolls houses and plastic tractors.

A realistic scrapwood wallpaper was put on the two end walls, giving the room a laid back feel, whilst improving its proportions visually with its dark colour. There’s seating for piles of teenagers on the big slouchy L shaped sofa, together with the Union Jack chair and a bright red beanbag the clients already owned. The playroom has grown up but it’s still a fun room.
