Shaw Stone Ltd. project

Unique Coffee Table Design

The objective of this project was to push the boundaries of creativity and explore the possibilities offered by the machines and tools available to us. Our team embarked on an innovative endeavor to transform a map of Great Britian into a functional and visually appealing coffee table. By combining the artistry of design with the practicality of furniture, we aimed to showcase the potential of stone as a versatile material.

For this ambitious project, we opted to work with Silestone Cemento quartz, a durable and aesthetically pleasing stone surface. The map of the UK was meticulously copied onto the quartz using advanced digital plotting and CNC-cutting technologies. This process allowed us to reproduce intricate details accurately, ensuring the coffee table would serve as both a practical piece of furniture and a captivating conversation starter.

To complement the elegant quartz top, we selected 30cm steel hairpin legs, which added a touch of modernity and stability to the overall design. The contrasting combination of natural stone and sleek metal elements created a visually striking coffee table that seamlessly merged contemporary aesthetics with timeless charm.

One of the primary goals of this project was to demonstrate the versatility of stone as a material for furniture design. By transforming a traditional map into a practical and usable coffee table, we showcased the adaptability of stone beyond its conventional use. The project challenged our team to think outside the box and pushed the boundaries of what could be achieved using modern technology and craftsmanship.

In conclusion, this unique coffee table design project served as a platform to explore the possibilities presented by our available tools and machinery. Through the replication of a map of the UK on a Silestone Cemento quartz surface, complemented by steel hairpin legs, we successfully demonstrated the potential of stone in furniture design. This project not only pushed the boundaries of creativity but also showcased the fusion of art and functionality in a captivating and practical piece of furniture.
