Profile

John McCall formed his own company in 1986 and is listed as one of the '100 leading interior designers' in the UK by House and Garden magazine. Background: Educated at Eton College and the Inchbald School of Design, John has been involved in all aspects of interior design for thirty years. Working internationally, his influences are classical architecture, antiques and textiles from 18th and 19th centuries which he likes to blend with contemporary art and specially commissioned pieces by young designers. The majority of John McCall' s work is in the UK with many repeat clients, having successfully completed the interiors of numerous houses and apartments in London. Large country house projects have become his trademark. He acted as consultant interior designer on two recently built prestigious neo-classical country houses in Derbyshire and Hampshire. He also works on residential projects throughout Europe, particularly in France, Spain and Greece, including ski chalets in the Alps and villas in the Mediterranean. Approach: John McCall enjoys the dialogue between client and designer and relishes the challenge of working to exacting briefs and budgets. Avoiding trends in interiors he feels is essential, whilst insisting that comfort, quality and understated luxury are paramount. His educated and sympathetic approach to the restoration of old buildings has led to commissions at some of this countries finest historic buildings and stately homes - Sudeley Castle, Woburn Abbey, Engelfield House, Berkshire and one of the finest Georgian houses in Bath.
