Ambassador: Sue Gifford Design

Sue Gifford is a trained artist and surface decorator as well as being a highly talented professional upcycler. Although her background is within the Fine Arts arena, Sue's growing concern for the environment led her to investigate how she could combine her upcycling and artistic skills, giving birth to a new genre of restoration and surface design with the planet in mind. Artcycling is where an artist-upcycler uses the surface of furniture as their canvas. It is becoming a highly sought-after technique within the professional upcycling skills arena, with Sue now well-established as one of our most respected artcycling experts.

Sue creates beautiful hand painted imagery on furniture as well as accessories (and walls, she is also an accomplished muralist), often realised from her love of adornment found on antique textiles and intricate detail discovered in nature, with each unique upcycled creation being a piece of art in itself.

Her designs are all originals, hand-painted in her studio or on-site, produced with the greatest care and attention. She works with interior designers and private clients on bespoke projects indoors and out and her items of creative reuse as well as her painted interiors, are destined to become heirlooms of the future. Clients will often ask Sue to include a story that is unique to their own history within her design which she is always delighted to do; she aims to reflect her client's personality in every commission whether a chair, table, trinket box or mural.

Sue is a registered client of the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland and under the auspices of The House of Upcycling has showcased her work at the House & Garden Festival, Olympia in 2019, as well as at the Blue Patch Sustainability Awards in October of that year. More recently she demonstrated her artcycling skills on-stage at both Grand Designs Live London and Birmingham in 2022.
