Edwardian country house

We made the most of the former dairy turned kitchen, renovating a room full of original Delft tiles, installing a hand-made kitchen and lighting the space to make the most of the soaring ceiling height. We repurposed the old cheese making worktops, retaining the spirit of the room whilst ensuring it was functional to cater for a crowd.

Leading directly off the kitchen, we followed the cabinetry through into the dining space, choosing a lighter colour for differentiation. Everything was made to meet the client's needs for entertaining - a brief that developed over the duration of the project as we refined how the client wanted to live in the property as they gradually got to know the space during the works. It is so important to be flexible to client requirements - particularly when embarking on major changes to a property that a client has potentially never lived in prior to renovation work, as needs and priorities inevitably change.

This bathroom was a triumph. We carved this space out of an existing very large bedroom, adding the roof light and designing a relaxing and tranquil haven. With porcelain tile floor, polished concrete walls and a textured timber arched shelving area, we used a really interesting materials palette. Given it was a relatively narrow space, the only way to ensure it didn't look too crowded was to put the bath within the large shower enclosure, where the glass shower screen doesn't impede the view through to the end of the space.

The main drawing room was a challenge. Formerly a dark space with a corner fireplace, and more of a corridor to another part of the house, we zoned it into distinct seating areas, built a glass extension and used a slatted timber joinery solution to hide a multitude of AV equipment.

Bringing additional light into this north facing drawing room, we added a glass extension, with partially glass floored balcony above to enjoy the views over the Kent countryside.
