Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Update for Interior Designers

Event date

Practical guidance on your legal obligations and how to avoid HMRC penalties, a must-attend webinar for interior designers navigating complex AML rules and risks.

ABOUT

A growing number of interior designers are discovering that they fall under the definition of ‘Art Market Participants’ and are therefore subject to the UK’s Money Laundering Regulations. As awareness rises, so does concern, particularly around compliance and the risk of receiving penalties from HMRC.

Penalties now range from minor breaches (such as failing to register) to severe sanctions for inadequate AML program implementation.

As of May 2025, the art market has come under the authority of a new regulator: The Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation (OFSI). This change introduces new obligations, including mandatory reporting of sanctions breaches.

With more legislative changes expected, this complimentary BIID webinar, led by FCS Compliance—will provide members with timely updates, practical guidance, and an understanding of what today’s HMRC inspections and penalties actually involve.

WHAT TO EXPECT

This webinar will cover:

  • How to determine if you are subject to UK Money Laundering Regulations and OFSI reporting obligations
  • Key steps to achieve compliance with HMRC and OFSI
  • Top AML vulnerabilities for Art Market Participants and Interior Designers
  • An overview of HMRC penalties and how they are calculated

WHAT YOU WILL LEAVE WITH

  • Clear understanding of whether you must register with HMRC or comply with OFSI reporting obligations (including cost and timing)
  • Knowledge of the key risks for Art Market Participants—and how to avoid exploitation by money launderers or sanctioned individuals
  • The essential steps needed to prevent penalties for poor AML compliance
  • A summary of the most recent HMRC enforcement actions
