BIID Member Craft Evening – Bauhaus Plate Painting at Solus Ceramics

Event date

BIID members are invited to join an exclusive Plate Painting workshop with cross-disciplinary designer Rhonda Drakeford

The Staatliches Bauhaus under the aegis of Walter Gropius was committed to what became known as the International Style, the harmony of function and design, simplified forms over ornate decoration, a modernist and forward-thinking aesthetic.

The unifying principle of the Bauhaus school concerned the relationship of form and function, believing that the limitations of simple forms liberate creative expression.

With this principle in mind, we’re excited to explore the art and culture of the Bauhaus in our upcoming session for BIID members at Solus Ceramics with Rhonda Drakeford.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Rhonda will take you through the process of painting your own Bauhaus inspired plate. After a paper-based design stage you will be let loose to discover your inner Walter Gropius. Explore the power of simple blocks and shapes, stencils, and paint, and create some beautiful objects to take home.

Programme

  • 6:30pm Drinks and nibbles
  • 7pm Start
  • 9pm Workshop ends / drinks
  • 10pm Close

WHAT TO BRING

No need to bring anything as all materials will be supplied.

WHAT YOU WILL LEAVE WITH

Creative activities can help people to process and manage the stresses of daily life by having a calming effect on the brain and body. As well as opening the mind for further creative thinking and daydreaming, a wonderful way for interior designers to reconnect with their creative side.

‘BIID Craft Socials’ have been developed to provide fun, relaxing, and social evenings out with fellow interior designers to explore their creativity and make something new, or even learn a new skill to carry over to their professional life. Come along for a glass of wine and chill out in our lovely event partners showroom.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

As Bauhaus alumni Laszlo Maholy-Nagy purported ‘Everyone is talented’ so all skill levels can attend.

We welcome BIID Registered Interior Designers, Associate members, Provisional Associate members and Employees of Registered Design Practices to attend the craft social evening. Due to strictly limited capacity for the workshop, we cannot allow other membership types, non-members, nor guests of members to attend.
