BIID Student Design Challenge

Event date

The British Institute of Interior Design is delighted to announce the launch of the BIID Student Design Challenge.   Building on the success of our previous collaborative events with the American Institute of Architects (UK chapter), this one day, CAD-free design competition open exclusively to 3rd year Interior Design and Interior Architecture degree students from across the UK. This inaugural event will be hosted at Campus London, Google’s vibrant and dynamic co-working space for start-ups and entrepreneurs.

We are inviting course directors to select a team of 6 students to come down to London and compete on behalf of their university. Teams will be given the design brief on the day and will have just 7 hours to develop a design proposal, before presenting their designs to a judging panel of renowned industry figures, led by BIID President Daniel Hopwood. First, second and third place will be awarded to the designs that have met the brief in the most creative and original way. This year’s brief will focus on the start-up industry around London’s Silicon Roundabout, and students will have to use all of their creativity to impress the judges.

Attendance to this event is free of charge for a team of 6 students and 1 course director, leader or lecturer and refreshments will be provided throughout the day. We will provide paper and students are asked to bring pencils, pens, modelling materials and anything else they might need along with them.

In addition to a fun and unique experience for students, this day also provides them with a unique opportunity for mentoring with a practising designer.

We are anticipating that this event will be extremely popular, so if you would like to send a team along to represent your university please let us know as soon as possible. The deadline to apply is 12.00pm on Friday 23rd October 2015. To apply, please contact rex.liddiard@biid.org.uk with your details and the names of your 6 competitors. If you have any questions about the competition, please do not hesitate to get in touch via email, or by telephone on 020 7628 0255.
