The overall brief was for a classic (he favours the traditional) yet laid back (she, the casual) feeling that is timeless, light, and eclectic - the perfect backdrop for a growing family that loves to entertain. Despite only owning a few beds and mattresses, they wanted the spaces to have a nostalgic, collected aesthetic. So we scoured auctions, vintage shops, (even charity shops!) and mixed our finds with new and bespoke items to give them the layered design they were after.

  • Southwest Family Home Basement

    The basement “playroom”, as my clients came to call it, has 2.5 meter high ceilings anchored by a wide light well that brings an abundance of natural light into an underground space that is typically dark.

  • The double reception room is layered with reclaimed Parisian holophane street lamps, vintage tables and rug, plus a 6.5 meter long bespoke joinery wall which includes a hidden library door leading to the basement entertaining spaces.

  • A double sink with Arabascatta marble sits under a bevelled tier vintage mirror we bought in auction. The large walk-in double rain shower sparkles with encaustic floor tiles and crackle wall tiles.

  • The open kitchen/dining area has a nearly four metre-long pitched skylight and crittal style wall to bring the maximum amount of light into the space during the day and twinkles at night with John Cullen fittings.

  • We added a green velvet sofa with goatskin cheetah-printed poufs and a vintage French chest of drawers with marble top to create a more social, casual layout.

  • Basement detail design

    We sourced this three meter wide antique oak apothecary cabinet to fill a large blank wall in the basement as well as the vintage rattan chairs.
