CDM 2015: Interior designers to take on greater responsibilities
Interior Designers will have to take up the responsibility of CDM Co-ordinators under new regulations by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) published last year.
June 2014 saw a public consultation take place by the HSE which, in addition to simplifying the current CDM Regulations from 2007, will see the "Principal Designer" of a project responsible for CDM implementation during the pre-construction phase.
The reasoning behind this move is to fully integrate health & safety into the design of a project and to ensure that these considerations are being made by the person with the most power to influence the design. It was thought during the consultation that a CDM Co-ordinator created a needless expense.
