Unique opportunity to volunteer interior design services for homeless charity

Homeless charity, Emmaus Norfolk & Waveney, have approached the BIID to find interior designers to offer charity support on a unique partnership opportunity to help them achieve their goal of preventing further homelessness in Norfolk and beyond.

'Room for a Room' Design Challenge, launching Winter 2022 / Spring 2023, is looking for interior designers to volunteer their time and expertise to work with corporate sponsors designing rooms in their idyllic former convent site based in Ditchingham, Norfolk

The Project:

  • 200 metre square site
  • Transforming 23 (listed with recent approval) nuns' rooms into B&B traveller style accommodation
  • Refectory operating a casual dining experience

‘Room for a Room Design Challenge’

  • Working with up to 23 companies who will be offered the opportunity to exclusively sponsor a recently renovated nun’s room for 5 years.
  • Rooms which will have their own sponsorship packages based on the size of the room
  • Each room must follow the green ethos and credentials of the Emmaus site by only using recycled and refurbished materials.
  • Access to high quality materials will be available at the vast showrooms we operate on site and in Norwich
  • Each team will be allocated an experienced interior designer (you) to help guide and advise and an Emmaus representative.
  • We anticipate each volunteer will give between 2-3 days of their time and this will include site visits, planning meetings, sourcing materials, and carrying the design refurb.
  • Once completed, the room will be entered into the ‘Room for a Room’ Design Challenge with each room competing against each other using brilliant ideas and innovation designs

Interior Designers will be rewarded with:

  • Being thanked and showcased in a prominent location within the building and through the charity's digital platforms offering long legacy and positive association with a highly emotive social cause
  • A dedicated and tailored PR and Social Media campaign to agreed stakeholder groups
  • Exposure to up to 5,000 room guests and over 14,000 day visitors to the site each year
