Wimbledon Village Traditional Home
We were thrilled to completely refurbish this period home in Wimbledon Village. Rich with period features and in need of some love and attention, it was key that we created a consistent design tone that was sympathetic to the period of the property yet balanced with a modern way of living for the whole family.
Working with Malone Architecture, the layout of both the ground and first floor was reconfigured, creating a larger kitchen with a timeless design that reflects the Georgian heritage of the home. The kitchen was designed in collaboration with kitchen designer Jo Buckerfield and was made to suit the family’s busy lives with a layout centered around the large glazed French doors which bring the outside in as you look onto the stunning landscaped garden. The wall between the lounge and dining room was removed to create a space more suited to entertaining with a sense of grandeur and sophistication in keeping with the property. The original fireplaces were reinstated and gold mirrors hang proudly above. Silk wallpaper in a simple taupe colour and thick silk curtains in a darker shade dress the windows and complement the original period shutters. Tartan wool and moleskin fabric was used to upholster the client’s own furniture creating a homely space. Bespoke carpentry was designed for the study and painted in a deep inky colour to blend in with the walls. The client uses this room mostly in the evening so the dark shade and antique brass feature lighting creates a moody cosy feel.
A soft neutral colour palette with a hint of opulence and grandeur is at the heart of the home. From the moment you enter the hallway a bold striped carpet from Alternative Flooring sweeps up through the house with each bedroom carpeted in a complementary colour to the stripe. The lighting was improved throughout the property with LED down lighting and beautifully handcrafted statement lighting from Jim Lawrence giving a nod to the period of the home.
The design for this gorgeous period home is classic, and not trend driven to stand the test of time. We were so proud to bring this home to life and preserve the stunning features for another generation to enjoy.
