No Ordinary House project
The 1920s House, Muswell Hill N2
This project involved the complete renovation of a 1920s house, reimagined as a warm and characterful family home designed around the realities of modern life.
The brief was clear from the outset: the clients wanted a home that felt lived-in and personal rather than overly styled or formal. Comfort, atmosphere and authenticity were central to the design, creating a home that reflects the family who live there rather than feeling like a show home.
With teenage children, the house also needed to become a natural hub for family life. Generous seating areas, relaxed social spaces and a strong sense of flow between rooms allow the home to adapt easily — from everyday moments to larger gatherings of friends and family.
A key part of the design approach was creating a stronger relationship between the interior spaces and the surrounding garden. Natural materials, soft textures and carefully considered colour palettes help to bring a sense of calm and connection to nature throughout the home.
The family’s existing furniture and art collection were carefully integrated into the design, allowing meaningful pieces to take centre stage and ensuring the interiors felt layered and deeply personal.
The result is a home that feels grounded, welcoming and full of character — a thoughtful renovation that supports the rhythm of everyday family life.
