The Barbican Apartment

A four bedroom apartment in Lauderdale Tower — held by one family for nearly thirty years, and home to our client for a decade — transformed into a cocooning retreat for a busy professional. The Barbican is one of London's great architectural monuments. The brief: be sensitive to it, celebrate it, but make it hers.

Our client felt intimidated by how to live in a piece of architectural history. We opened the galley kitchen to the living room, designed a bespoke kitchen in sapele wood that honours the building's mahogany detailing, and built a colour story throughout — red and butter yellow in the living room, plaster pink in the bedroom, olive green in the study — to help her decompress from a demanding career a short walk from the City. The apartment now pays homage to the building and delivers for her life.
