Black Pear Bespoke Furniture project

Bookcase for Georgian Town House

This project involved the design and manufacture of a bespoke bookcase and desk for a Georgian townhouse, with a brief that called for a contemporary aesthetic while subtly referencing the architectural detailing of the period property.

The resulting bookcase was crafted in oak and designed as a framed architectural piece measuring 2.5 metres high by 2 metres wide. Low-level cabinetry provided concealed storage, while integrated lighting was incorporated to create warmth and highlight the displayed objects and books. A bespoke library ladder with a solid brass rail was produced specifically for the installation, alongside custom-made brass edge-pull handles designed exclusively for the piece.

The accompanying desk was designed to complement the bookcase, featuring a solid oak top, integrated stationery drawer, and a concealed sliding shelf for a printer. Bespoke antiqued brass detailing was incorporated throughout, reflecting the restrained material palette and considered craftsmanship that characterise the studio’s work.
