Rina Patel of Vastu Interior Design asked us to create bespoke upholstered furniture to her own designs for this stylish substantial home designed by architects DDA.
Working with Rina’s ideas, hand-drawn sketches and CAD drawings, we crafted bespoke headboards for five of the six bedrooms, and a luxurious modular sofa and seating for the expansive open plan living spaces.
For the main open plan living space in this family home, Rina’s brief was for a multi-functional sofa and upholstered furniture for the sitting area that would make the most of the view over the property’s gardens. She wanted the sofa to be used for watching TV, relaxing and socialising with people cooking in the adjacent open plan kitchen.
We chose extra thick loose seat cushions and gave the sofa good depth to encourage relaxation and to stop the sofa looking like a piece of commercial furniture. Our upholstery team upholstered the seats in a woven black and white Italian fabric and the base in a pale leather from Whistler, all selected by Rina. Matching scatter cushions and throws were created by our team.
On each corner and side of the sofa, we built in storage boxes upholstered in the same materials as the sofa. Our team created metal tabletops for each storage area so they could be used as side tables. We used offcuts of the liquid brass metal panels by Artisans of Devizes that were specified for the feature wall behind the TV to create the tabletops. Integrated into the metal surfaces are charging stations, power sockets, and lamps from Bert Frank. Accessing the storage underneath is easily done by lifting a hinged section of the metal table surface using a leather pull handle crafted by Origins Design.
“There is no need to leave this sofa.” Rina said. “You can charge your phone or tablet when there, read, relax, chat to family members cooking or sitting at the dining table, and watch over the garden and pool outside.”
