Cigal Kaplan Interiors was instructed to work on a three-bedroom penthouse in central London. The apartment belongs to a couple working in law and finance and their two children. We were tasked with turning the busy family home into an elegant, efficient space, creating bespoke furniture and joinery at every turn.

We transformed the entire apartment into a sophisticated, comfortable and hardworking home for the family. Making the most of the space available was paramount, so in many areas, such as the living room and the bathroom, we changed the layout completely to make the most of the apartment’s many wonderful assets, such as its large windows flooded with sunlight, and its endless views across the capital.

The living room, once a crowded space, was stripped back and reimagined. We commissioned bespoke joinery by British carpenters across an entire wall. A media unit, encompassing clever hidden storage, gentle LED lights and a remote-controlled electric fireplace, sits alongside a bar with sliding pocket doors and a pull-out shelf on which to prepare drinks. This media unit centres the room, allows the family to place their favourite books and photographs on display, and makes a comfy, yet elegant, place for the family to convene in front of the television or with their books.

Around this media unit, we chose furniture that was equally stylish and comfortable. A large Roche Bobois sofa takes centre stage, complemented by a smaller bespoke sofa  bade by a Britihs supplier Robert Langford wand an on-trend Love Your Home boucle armchair. We made bespoke cushions to reflect the colour scheme of the room, choosing bold tones of burnt orange and royal blue.

Behind this living area is the dining room, where again, bespoke was the order of the day. We commissioned a stunning six-seater dining table with a marble top and gold legs, and six blue chairs with a gorgeous Lotus fabric  from Spain for the back that you can’t help but run your hands over.

To ground both the dining and living areas, and to mark them as separate but complementary areas, we commissioned two matching bespoke rugs from Portugal. These rugs have been handmade in deep blue and cream tones, with gold metal threaded throughout for a truly luxurious touch. The rugs took many hours to finesse, with our designers poring over the details to make sure the gold metal was prominent in the most important areas.

To elevate the tone of the family room, and to ensure the surroundings reflected the opulence of the furniture, we chose luxurious panelling on all the walls, with a soft white paint to allow the details to shine. The lighting design was paramount to make the space cosy and warm yet functional and bright. We chose statement wall lights, ceiling lights, floor lamps and table lamps from British brands.
