Novaco Design Ltd project
A Considered Residential Care Environment
Altogether Care in Dorset commissioned Novaco Design to rework a residential care interior that no longer supported modern living or care needs. The brief focused on creating a calm, domestic setting while improving daily function for residents, staff, and visiting families.
Novaco Design restructured the internal layout to strengthen flow between communal spaces. Clear zoning supports residents living with dementia, reduces confusion, and encourages confident movement throughout the building. Spatial planning placed familiarity and orientation at the centre of every decision.
The nurses’ station was relocated and redesigned as a bespoke joinery piece with a residential character. This removed the clinical presence and helped staff remain accessible without dominating shared spaces.
Material and furniture selections balanced comfort with performance. Durable finishes, hygienic surfaces, and DDA compliance informed every specification. Upholstery, lighting, and joinery were chosen to feel warm, robust, and reassuring in daily use.
The completed scheme includes a reconfigured dining area, quiet seating zones, and a dedicated activities space. Each area supports connection, comfort, and routine. The result is an interior that feels considered, familiar, and supportive of long term care.
