A listed 18c Cotswold cottage nestled in a hill with panoramic views over the Woodchester valley. A modern extension provided a kitchen and dining room with maximising light and space. The older part of the cottage has smaller darker rooms with deep set windows in the stone walls. Traditional features such as oak beams, open fires and a winding stone staircase.

The owners were South African and wanted to create a cottage reflective of their colourful heritage, with lots of bold pattern and statement pieces. With two children it also needed to be practical, comfortable and with lots of storage.

The design concentrated on a contemporary country style. Using the traditional features of the cottage to work with bold colourful patterns which brought in the colours of the landscape and brightened the traditional low oak beamed rooms . A bespoke oak table was made for the dining extension by a local furniture maker to fit the space.
