The Building
An Italianate townhouse in De Beauvoir Town, Hackney. Full-height sash windows, generous ceiling heights, original proportions largely intact. The brief came from the building: find what we already understood, and follow it.
A Timeline of Furniture, Not a Single Period
No room holds a single era. The dining room is anchored by a mid-century burl walnut plinth and an antique urn. The living room brings together a mid-century inspired bar cabinet, an Italian antique chair, and hand-forged side tables made by a craftsman in Sussex. Pieces from different periods share space because that is how houses actually accumulate character. Imposing a single era produces a showroom. This is a home.
The result is four floors connected by a consistent material language. Italianate in its bones. Particular in its contents. The building's proportions set the terms. Everything else answered them.
