WHAT TO EXPECT

Frank narratives with project imagery from a varied set of designers working across interior design sectors in the UK.

Commercial – Angela Bardino, Grimshaw

Angela BardinoGrimshaw

Project: Yoox Net-a-Porter Technology Hub, West London

Grimshaw were tasked with creating a flexible, employee focused 70,000 square foot office space for the ever-growing global fashion retailer’s Yoox Net-a-Porter, housing 650 members of staff. With great attention to material choices the offices evolved from their past life as the BBC Media Works building into an innovative working office, integrating technology to reflect the company’s dynamic outlook. Angela will detail will how this project was brought to fruition taking you on a visual expedition through the design process to handover that was delivered over an intense 9-month programme.

Hospitality and Leisure: Bess Sturman, Sturman & Co. Interior Design Studio

Bess Sturman Sturman Co Interior Design Studio

Project: Ilkley Cinema, Yorkshire, UK

Ilkley Cinema opened in November 2015 as Europe’s smallest 4K commercial cinema, with just 57 seats. It came to life from the dream of a local businessman who visited Wanaka, New Zealand in 2014 and found a small, creative and cosy cinema that he loved. From seeking key funding from supportive locals, to taking on an historic site that came with significant structural and spatial challenges, nothing about the evolution of this concept into a reality was conventional. Ilkley is a Victorian spa town on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, home to a discerning and relatively cosmopolitan community. From the outset, the key was to create the right feel and to create a destination venue that offered something different from the average multiplex. Founders John Tate and John Hewitt entrusted care of this most precious aspect to Sturman & Co in late 2014 after Bess pitched her concept and approach to them. Her brief was to bring originality, quirkiness and luxury to a derelict Victorian building that had formerly housed a nightclub.

Residential – Oz Lancaster, OS Designs

OzLancaster OS Designs

Project: Platinum Penthouse

With 360-degree views across London, the Platinum Penthouse challenged OS Designs to create an interior with the ambiance of a 7* Luxury Hotel at home. Fully utilising the extensive outdoor space, they were able to bring the indoors out. By designing a chef’s barbecue, an outdoor dining room, Jacuzzi and integrating marble flooring throughout the entire property, they created the contemporary atmosphere of a super luxury hotel. OS Designs were highly involved with the initial planning, layout and room configuration which allowed the result to be a seamless flow between the indoor and outdoor spaces.

Residential Restoration - Lisa Orrick, Bernard Interiors

LisaOrrick Bernard Interiors

Project Title: Park Terrace, Glasgow.

This imposing listed five storey sandstone townhouse overlooks the stunning Kelvingrove Park in Glasgow. With inherent beauty and detail the once derelict office building has been transformed into a sophisticated and luxurious home with a sumptuous palette of materials, rich in bespoke detail, colour and texture. Combing influences from Art Deco to 1970s glamour the design team created a unique and distinct home with a selection of vibrant artwork, elegant objet d’art, furniture, lighting and fabrics.
