Have you always wanted to work with a photographer on a project, but you don’t know where to start? Please join the BIID for this online seminar with awarded interiors photographer Rachael Smith as she details copyright and licensing requirements, reveals tricks of the trade for the best editorial shots and outlines what to expect on location and how much it will cost.


In this webinar style presentation Rachael will talk you through:

  • Licencing – what you need to know
  • Commissioning and owning rights – how to buy the rights to photographs and commissioning a photographer
  • Costs – what to expect
  • On shoot etiquette – what is expected
  • What makes a good shot – tricks of the trade revealed

  • Case studies of residential and retail interiors illustrating the above

This CPD is open to current BIID Registered Interior Designers, Associate members, Provisional Associate members and employees of BIID Registered Design Practices. Please note that if you do not have one of the above memberships, your ticket will be cancelled. Spaces are limited.  


Rachael Smith has a BA Hons degree in photography from Brighton University. She won the Nagoya award at University for artistic flair and appeared in a TV programme called A Foot in the Door.

Rachael has been shooting for magazines, supplements and commercially for 18 years. Working for The World Of Interiors, Elle Decoration, House and Garden, Homes and Gardens, The Times, Telegraph etc. and has seen and shot a lot of amazing interiors over the years, travelling to America, New Zealand, China and all over Europe on shoots.

Once you have registered for this event and your membership status has been verified, you will be emailed the Zoom Meeting link.  If this event is fully booked, please join the waiting list. If you are no longer able to attend, please inform the office so that we can give your spot to someone else.

  1. If you wish to cancel your booking to a paid event, please send a refund request via Eventbrite. A full refund will be issued if your refund request is received 10 working days prior to the day of the event.

  2. The full delegate fee will be forfeited for non-attendance (for any reason) without prior notice or cancellation of your booking.

  3. A replacement delegate nominated and confirmed by you is permitted but must be confirmed in writing to prior to the event.

  4. If you wish to cancel your booking to a free event, please do so via Eventbrite as soon as possible so that your ticket can be reallocated.

  5. The BIID reserves the right to make changes to the programme.

  6. The BIID reserves the right to cancel the event if unavoidable circumstances arise.

  7. This event will be photographed and videoed. Attendance constitutes consent for these images/videos to be used, by the BIID and its partners, for promotional purposes.

  9. Your name may be shared with the venue.
