Learn how to get noticed by employers and finesse your portfolio and interview skills.

Calling all BIID Student members and recent graduates, join us for an in-depth evening webinar and mentoring session with professional interior designers who will be on hand to guide you through creating a splash at this early stage of your interior design career.

WHAT TO EXPECT

In the webinar section of this session, Simon Hamilton from Design Career Consulting will be presenting top tips and industry insight into making your portfolio, and you, stand out from the crowd.

  • Top Tips for CV’s – including what to include and why
  • Top Tips for Cover Letters – including the dos and don’ts
  • Top Tips for Portfolios – including how to make yours stand out
  • Top Tips for Interviews – including the process and format of an online interview
  • Some questions you might be asked at an interview and some you can ask
  • How to follow up after an interview
  • Where to look for job opportunities
  • How to network
  • 15 minute Q&A

After the webinar, and a quick break, you will be sorted into breakout rooms where, in small groups of 6, you will be introduced to your mentor, a practicing interior designer, who will be on hand to discuss your portfolio with you and your peers in a 90-minute roundtable. Each participant will have 15 minutes to present their portfolios virtually for feedback and thoughtful advice.

WHAT TO BRING

If you would like your portfolio discussed please have an electronic copy, or photo samples from your physical portfolio ready to share on screen with your mentor and peer group.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

This event is exclusively for final year and recently graduated BIID student members, Provisional Associate members and Associate members in their first year of practice.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

London born and a graduate of Interior Design from Nottingham Trent University, Simon has consulted on the production of projects across a variety of creative disciplines and is a past BIID International Director.

Simon continues to be active within the creative field through collaborations and helps emerging creatives and designer makers via the Creative Skills Network

Simon greatly values design education at any age and he has presented seminars, design trends, interviews, workshops, and lessons online and offline, for University of Arts London at Central Saint Martins and Chelsea College of Arts, London. Simon is also a visiting tutor at The Interior Design School as part of the Professional Practice Preparation Team.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and since 2014, he has been on the judging panel for the International Property Awards which brings an inspiring insight to the Interior Design and Architecture sectors around the world.

As a member of Design Dialogue, Simon actively campaigns to improve diversity and inclusion in the design industry. This includes his role in as Resource Hub Editor & Content Curator for United In Design in addition to being invited on podcasts by The Great Indoors, The Interior Design Business and The Multi Story Thinking to discuss these important issues.

  2. The full delegate fee will be forfeited for non-attendance (for any reason) without prior notice or cancellation of your booking.
  3. A replacement delegate nominated and confirmed by you is permitted but must be confirmed in writing to info@BIID.org.uk prior to the event.
  4. If you wish to cancel your booking to a free event, please do so via Eventbrite as soon as possible so that your ticket can be reallocated.
  5. The BIID reserves the right to make changes to the programme.
  6. The BIID reserves the right to cancel the event if unavoidable circumstances arise.
  7. This event will be photographed and videoed. Attendance constitutes consent for these images/videos to be used, by the BIID and its partners, for promotional purposes.
