Furniture for a Warwickshire Home

For this project, SAAL Design commissioned Black Pear Bespoke to design and manufacture two contemporary walnut pieces for a period property in Leamington Spa, carefully balancing modern detailing with sensitivity to the character of the home.

The first piece was a bespoke fitted shelving installation designed to display artwork, plants, and collected objects. Crafted in dark walnut, the composition featured an asymmetrical arrangement of floating shelves with concealed perimeter lighting, creating a soft wash of light across the wall behind and adding depth to the overall scheme. Below, low-level cabinetry with sliding doors provided concealed storage, finished with painted fronts and bespoke brass handles to introduce contrast and refinement within the material palette.

The second piece was a complementary walnut temple cabinet created for the family’s daily Hindu worship practices. Designed as both a functional and deeply personal object, the cabinet incorporated rattan-panelled doors which slide back into concealed internal pockets, allowing the interior to remain fully open during use. Inside, a stone shelf and matching back panel were installed to display religious icons, alongside a bespoke brass lotus flower emblem designed specifically for the piece. Concealed lighting and integrated lower drawers completed the cabinet, combining practicality with a calm and carefully considered presence within the room.
