Lolita Colenso Design project
Grade II listed Regency townhouse built in 1802
Working closely with the conservation team, Lolita was granted permission to transform this beautiful townhouse creating a unique open plan kitchen and dining area, complete with a utility room and a much desired large larder cupboard.
On the ground floor, an additional bathroom was added, along with partition doors that allow occasional separation between the living and reading rooms creating the flexibility for an occasional fourth bedroom. Instead of curtains, solid shutters were installed in each of the bedrooms and the reading room to allow full overnight blackout. Three bedrooms and a large bathroom were all renovated. A new metal stairway was commissioned to allow access to the patio from both the kitchen and the ground floor. Two new Critall style doors in style to resemble original 1920s commissioned and painted an off-white shade to suit the aesthetic of this seaside property. In the kitchen large black limestone tiles were combined with small Carrara marble squares in a traditional layout. Underfloor heating was installed to add warmth and prevent damp accumulation. Patio had a blend of stained terracotta tiles and irregularly placed antique tiles gave an authentic, aged appearance that continued the visual flow from the kitchen. Delft-style tiles featuring sea and land motifs made a unique and timeless splashback around the kitchen worktop.
All fireplaces in the house were restored using original fire surrounds.
