Located in Hackney, a short walk from Victoria Park, we were approached to help this growing family design and implement a ground floor extension, and completely rebuild the back garden shed. The extension began as they wanted to make better use of their ground floor, and the existing kitchen did not lend itself to hosting, as they loved to do. We came in and helped them to rationalise the space in a way that would lend itself to all of their needs. We completely re-arranged the space to include a full family bathroom, and space for dining for up to 10 guests as they love to host. This meant building in a bench, which also doubles as additional storage, and the space really transformed with the extra large rooflight that we installed.

For the shed, the brief was very simple - they needed a space for an office, ideally for them both, but they also needed space for a bed should guests wish to stay. We thought about this a lot and what we came to realise was that the best way to do this was to custom build a murphy bed and separate the two desks with the bed in the middle. The aesthetic for this space is calm and simple and as it is in the back of the garden, it means that one can be working, and the other can be in the house with the family and you really feel you are away and have a calm environment to escape to.

Aesthetically overall, this couple are anything but ordinary, and this home is anything but ordinary, and their interiors really had to reflect that. The home is quirky with the main staircase being a metal spiral stair. We wanted to expose the steels and infuse texture and colour throughout which has the effect of not only blending in with the home as it stood before, but making it feel like it’s always been this way. In this sense, we have created something that is “eclectically timeless” in many ways, and quirky and fun in others. The clients themselves are a super fun couple, and this home is an excellent reflection of them.
