The Brief

We were approached by the wonderful owners of Leonards at 39, a popular cocktail bar and restaurant in Hereford to help them light up their amazing new restaurant! They were carrying out a huge refurbishment, and as a former interior designer co-owner Charlie had a clear idea of which she wanted to create, a luxurious cocktail lounge. The brief asked for a speakeasy-style lighting aesthetic that would complement the gorgeous, retro interior design of the space.

The Design Process

Our lighting design Simon outlined that lighting placement and colour temperature was key to creating the perfect ambience. Towards the back of the restaurant there is a stunning double height glazed lantern section from which we wanted to suspend a 19-way Hereford smoked glass cluster chandelier.

In other parts of the restaurant, ceiling heights were plentiful and provided us with the opportunity to specify 3-way Hereford clusters above the tables within the window bays, which would look amazing from both outside and in. We achieved the concept of layering by using 5-amp sockets for lamps, wall lights, picture lights and discretely placed LED strips.

The project took about 8 months to complete in total. The lighting desires, as outlined by Leonards, were delivered exactly as per plan, and the result was something spectacular
