Light & Shadow House

Light & Shadow House is a full refurbishment, rear extension, and loft conversion of a traditional  terraced home in South London. The project reimagines the spatial flow of the house, transforming it into a calm, functional, and characterful family home.

The design is centred around the interplay of light and shadow. A bright, open-plan kitchen and dining space forms the heart of the home, enhanced by rooflights and a soft, neutral palette that maximises natural daylight. In contrast, the front reception room and hallway embrace a deeper, more atmospheric tone, with dark joinery, layered textures, and carefully curated lighting creating a sense of intimacy and depth.

A consistent language of bespoke joinery runs throughout the house, blending traditional detailing with contemporary simplicity. Natural materials, including timber flooring , add warmth and tactility, while subtle brass accents introduce refinement without overpowering the scheme.

The extension and loft conversion allow the home to grow with the needs of its occupants, providing additional living space while maintaining a cohesive architectural identity. The result is a balanced interior that feels both timeless and modern—rooted in its Victorian context yet clearly adapted for contemporary living.
