LIVING ROOM INTERIOR DESIGN PROJECT, JAPAN

This living room interior design project in Japan centres on the integration of a traditional Persian Bijar rug as the starting point of the scheme. The client’s appreciation for hand-woven textiles informed the design approach, with the distinctive red and blue tones of the rug guiding the overall colour palette.

To support and extend these colours, curtains using William Morris fabrics were introduced, incorporating bold blue stripes that echo the rug’s pattern. Natural materials such as linen and rayon add softness and depth, while darker border details help define the composition of the space.

Furniture upholstery and finishes were carefully selected to complement the rug’s rich tones, balancing expressive colour with a sense of restraint. The result is a cohesive living space where textiles, colour, and materiality work together to create a refined yet characterful interior.
